Tuesday, November 10th - Becoming More Receptive

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." - Romans 12:2

No matter what you’re trying to prove or what point of view you hold, you can always find someone or something to support what you think and tell you what you believe is right. As a matter of fact, the algorithms of our social media platforms and web browsers actually work in a way that conform to our tendencies, preferences, and opinions and give us more of what we already believe to be right. We see what we want to see and find what we already know to “prove” we are correct in our thinking.

Women who are becoming more receptive don’t treat the Bible like an algorithm that only tells us what we want to hear. They read the Bible and ask the Bible to transform their thoughts and renew their minds – even when it is challenging and goes against what we have believed to be true.

Pray and ask God to make you receptive to the difficult truths in His Word. Ask Him to help you set aside bias and excuses that hold you back from seeing the truth of who He is calling you to become and how He is calling you to live. Pray that your mind would be renewed by the Word so that in the process of becoming more receptive you will become more like Him.

Then read the following scriptures and dwell on what they are saying to you – not through the lens of your own preferences and opinions, but through the lens of God’s character and nature. Share a quick comment of something challenging that stood out to you from these verses.

  • Matthew 6:33

  • John 15:12

  • Matthew 5:7

  • Matthew 5:38-42
