Wednesday, April 6th - Becoming More Solemn

Why are you here on earth? What is your purpose in life? Many people spend years (some even spend a lifetime) trying to figure out their purpose in life and discern what they were meant to do. We long for purpose and meaning in our lives. We long for significance and to do something of importance that leaves a legacy and makes an impact. So we pursue our careers, passions, and calling with abandon and give our lives to the pursuit of purpose.

While it’s true that God has a unique purpose for your life, that unique purpose takes second stage to the universal purpose God has for each and every one of us. In Isaiah 43:6-7 the prophet relates to us what God has told him, “I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth— everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.”

We were created to bring God glory. In 1 Corinthians 10:31 Paul says it this way, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Yes, God has a unique purpose for our lives that we should pursue. But more importantly, our whole lives should bring glory to God. Not just what we do for a hobby or a career, but our entire being, our thoughts, motivations, thinking, and actions, should bring Him glory. That is our ultimate purpose in life. If we get serious about bringing God glory, then we will be in the right posture to discover our unique purpose and calling.
