Friday, April 16th - Becoming More Virtuous

"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." -Proverbs 31:28-30

What do you want to be known for? What do you long to be praised for?

Before we hear what this woman of valor is praised for, we hear what she is not praised for. She is not praised because of her noble actions, even though what she does exceeds the actions of others. She is not praised because of her charm or her ability to earn favor from others, although in the previous verses we learn that she is well respected in the community. She is not praised because of her beauty - that is here today and gone tomorrow. This woman of valor is being praised for something very specific: she is a woman who fears the Lord. She is praised because of her faith. She is honored because of the fruitfulness that comes from her faithfulness.

What do you want to be known for? What do you long to be praised for?
