“But God will shoot them with his arrows;
they will suddenly be struck down.
He will turn their own tongues against them
and bring them to ruin;
all who see them will shake their heads in scorn.
All people will fear;
they will proclaim the works of God
and ponder what he has done.
The righteous will rejoice in the Lord
and take refuge in him;
all the upright in heart will glory in him!”
- Psalm 64:7-10 (NIV)
When people are mistreating and attacking you, God is not sitting idly by watching what you’re going to do to protect yourself; He is preparing for battle and waiting for the right time to bring His justice. While we are most concerned with justice and revenge against the people who hurt us, He is most concerned about their hearts. He loves those who plot evil plans against you just as much as He loves you. When He rebukes them, it’s from a heart of love and a desire for them to come to know Him as you have. When He attacks back on your behalf, it’s not because He wants them to hurt, it’s because He will do whatever it takes to bring them to a place of repentance and acceptance of the Gospel.
