Week Three, Day Five
Many people see doubt as a lack of belief that leads to unfulfilled hope. There is a thought that as long as we don’t doubt ourselves, we can do anything.
Read Matthew 8:23-27 and Matthew 14:22-33.
Doubt can have many causes, but if often manifests itself in the following order as it did with the disciples in these two stories.
Lack of Control >> Fear >> Doubt
Reread the passages and examine Jesus’ response.
Control >> Peace >> Confidence
Jesus didn’t expect the disciples to be able to handle the problem themselves. He knew their limitations. We were never meant to have confidence in ourselves because we are limited in our abilities and power. The only thing we can control is ourselves and our reactions! Jesus has complete control of every circumstance and situation. Nothing is outside of His ability to control.
Awareness Prayer – Jesus, I surrender doubt and place my confidence in you.
Reflection Question – Where are you experiencing a lack of control, fear, and doubt?
