Monday, August 9th - Becoming More Empathetic

“I can’t imagine what you’re going through.”

We say that phrase a lot when we’re speaking with someone going through a tough season. We’ve received those words by those that love us when we’ve gone through our own trials. But what if we did try to imagine what they’re going through? What if we actually sat down and spent some time empathizing with how someone was feeling?

"Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." – Romans 12:15

God calls us to be empathetic with one another. It allows us to view things as others view things, and better understand what they’re going through. The more we understand others in the season they’re in, the more prepared we are to act and minister to them.

Ask God to bring someone to mind in your life that is going through a rough season. Spend some time in prayer asking God to help you understand more fully what they’re going through. Then act – ask God to show you how to help this person in the season they’re in. How is God calling you to empathize with someone this week?
