What do you do for a living? Do you work as an office manager? Are you on the front lines of this pandemic in the role of a nurse or a doctor? Are you a cashier at the grocery store? A barista? A nanny? A case worker? A personal trainer? A teacher? A police officer? A bank teller? A stay at home mom? A therapist? What is it that you do day in and day out?
Our jobs can sometimes feel like they’re just what we do to pass the day and earn a paycheck. We wake up in the morning dreading 8:00am and count down the hours until the clock reads 5:00pm. However, we forget that, at least for most jobs, the gift and responsibility that comes from being surrounded by coworkers, customers, clients, children, or students, etc. And do you know what God-given resource we have been given to be used during working hours? Influence.
What would it look like to shift your perspective from watching the clock to looking at your position as an opportunity for influence? The people you interact with throughout the day see how you react and respond to things, how you talk to or about others, how you treat people, and how you carry yourself. Why not take the opportunity to show them Jesus?
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16
God made us the light of the world so that others may see Him in us and would come to know Him. The key is to leverage our influence right where we are. No matter where you find yourself, someone around you who is observing your actions and reactions. When you carry yourself in a way that exudes love and grace, you provide others with the opportunity to see a glimpse into what a relationship with their Savior could look like. Today be the light that God created you to be.
What does leveraging your influence look like for you? How does today’s topic challenge your daily thoughts about your job or workplace? How can you seek out opportunities to show the people around you your love and adoration for Jesus?
