Wednesday, December 29th - Becoming More Refreshed


The human brain consists of about 86 billion neurons, sending information to other neurons at a speed of about 268 miles per hour (faster than a bullet train in Japan!). There are roughly 100,000 miles of blood vessels in our brain too. What an incredible machine God placed in our heads!


Machines require routine maintenance though, and regular inspections to make sure they are working at peak performance. A wrong move or a missed check-up could derail the entire mechanism, and start a chain reaction that could upend everything the machine was created for.


So why don’t we treat our minds with the same care that a powerhouse machine like that deserves? Why don’t we spend more time getting mental check-ups, making sure everything is operating well? Mental health is so important and we have a God that created our minds to do so many incredible things, but we often take it for granted. Our minds are not meant to carry everything alone. God doesn’t want our minds to work until they give out. He wants to refresh us with His presence and love. He wants to fill our minds with His goodness and mercy and an abundance of gratitude. God desires nothing more than for our thoughts to be good and gracious, and for us to give any burdens to Him.


If you find yourself thinking more negatively this season, run to the Father. Lay whatever is burdening or troubling you down at His feet. Open up to surrender, and ask for His goodness to permeate your thoughts.

There is no shame in acknowledging what you are feeling and experiencing. When you’re sick, you go to a doctor. Treat your mind with the same care and get a mental check-up.
