“But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Matthew 10:19-20 (NIV)
Jesus didn’t promise them protection from arrest, He promised them protection in arrest. The disciples weren’t so much worried about the actual arrest as they were worried about having the knowledge and being prepared with a statement that would honor Jesus. They felt unprepared and inadequate for the task. Instead of finding certainty in their preparedness, they could be certain in the protection of the Spirit to provide for them in their moment of weakness.
God never sends us out unprepared. He gives us His Spirit to protect us and provide for us the moment we need Him. When is a time the Spirit helped you in a situation for which you felt ill equipped or unprepared?
