Week Six, Day Three
In Ezekiel 37, Ezekiel saw a vision of our dry, lifeless world and rediscovered the power of God to bring dead things to life. Read Ezekiel 37:1-10.
Ezekiel 37:11-14 goes on to explain that God is talking about the nation of Israel. The nation was hopeless and dead. They had been in exile and were cut off from their land. God promised He would restore Israel to their land and revive them from their spiritual death. He would completely restore them - giving tendons and flesh to their bones and giving new Spirit-filled breath to their lifeless bodies.
While this is a clear prediction of what God will do in and through Israel in the last days, it is also a lesson in how God works and revives hopeless, dead people today. While it is ultimately God’s work to bring the spiritually dead and apathetic back to life, like Ezekiel, you and I have a role to play in this process. Just as Ezekiel proclaimed the Word of God to the bones and prayed for the Spirit of God to give them life, we are called to the same work.
Awareness Prayer – God, give me the courage to preach to and pray for the dry bones around me.
Reflection Question –
What is the most challenging part in helping dry bones live?
1. Being in the middle of the valley of dry bones.
2. Preaching the gospel to the dry bones.
3. Praying that the Spirit would revive the dry bones.
